Promptea is a catalogue of prompts, agent skills, MCP servers and the small tools around them, with an editorial desk attached. It opened today with seven house entries and no community submissions, which is an honest number.
The gap
Discovery for this ecosystem is solved and useless. There are registries listing tens of thousands of MCP servers, and lists of lists on top of them. What none of it tells you is which twenty minutes are worth spending. Volume without judgement is a phone book.
The other half of the gap is the prompts themselves. The good ones live in gists, in a colleague’s notes app, in the third reply of a thread, and they rot there. Nobody versions them, nobody says which model they were written against, and nobody admits where they fall over.
What we are doing about it
Two things, and only two. A catalogue where each entry has to state its model, its runtime, its licence and its limits before it goes live. And a desk that installs things and writes down what happened.
Every publisher account and every entry is approved by a person. This is slower than an open firehose and it is the whole product. A catalogue is worth exactly as much as the reading that went into it.
What it is not
- Not a store. Everything is free, no card is asked for, and there is no commission because there is nothing to take one from.
- Not a mirror. We do not repost other people’s repositories as our own entries. The MCP shelf opens with a template rather than with somebody else’s work taken without asking.
- Not automated. No scraper fills this catalogue overnight. If it ever does, we will say so on the entries it filled.
- Not neutral. The desk has opinions and prints them. A publisher cannot buy a review or have one removed.
Publishing
Register, wait for a human, submit an entry, wait for a human again. In exchange you get a page that states what your work needs and what it costs to run, which is more than a gist has ever given anybody. The rules are on the guidelines page, and they are short.
